Major casino companies in the United States are waking up to the fact that online casino gambling cannot be stopped
Initially these casino companies supported banning online casino gambling, but as online gambling has grown, they are realizing that they are missing out on their piece of the action. Major casino companies like MGM Mirage, Harrah's Entertainment Inc. and others are now working to lobby Congress in regards to legalizing online gambling.
These companies believe that the best way to control the online casino gambling industry, as far as the U.S. is concerned, is to regulate and tax it. This would pave the way for major companies to set up shop online. It also could have an interesting effect on the online gambling industry in regards to other lesser-known operations. Americans account for a strong part of online gambling and it's quite possible that they would rather wager with a known major company in America than an offshore corporation.
It has been projected that around 15 million Americans have gambled online, but the true number, given annual gambling figures, is likely much higher. While online casino gambling is technically legally a gray area in the U.S.. Legislation to change the wording and bring it up to today's technological terms has been slow moving. The House is expected to pass the legislation, but it is very unlikely that the Senate will pass it. Europe is leading the way on this issue and American politicians may be looking at Europe to gauge the success of officially legalizing online gambling.
According to the recent Wall Street Journal Poll, 85% of those polled in USA were against a Congressional ban on online Gambling.
Politicians care about one thing. The boom of online poker has also potentially shifted millions of US voters against the current proposed bill.
